Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Autism Program Manager, the Speech Language Pathologist will provide skilled speech/language pathology services for individuals ages 3 to 21 who have been diagnosed on the autism spectrum. The SLP actively participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team including applied behavior analysis, occupational therapy, counseling, and psychiatry. Responsibilities include the assessment, treatment, and management of speech, language, fluency, voice, auditory processing, social language, cognitive -communicative and/or feeding/ swallowing impairments associated with the autism spectrum. Clinical Fellows (CF) have access to onsite supervision.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the Waterfall Community Health mission while performing assigned duties.

  • Evaluate the patient/client’s cognitive, communicative, and swallowing status and develop an individualized plan of care with measurable treatment goals and intervention methods appropriate to the patient's age, condition, diagnosis, response to treatment, and learning needs.
  • When applicable, provide supervision and mentorship to speech-language pathology assistants and clinicians in their clinical fellowship year.
  • Develop new and improved services through ongoing assessment of existing evaluation methods and treatment techniques and incorporating new techniques into clinical practice.
  • Provide training to parents/guardians on treatment techniques.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation associated with comprehensive electronic client files.
  • Implement a screening process to assist families in determining the necessary services or assessments and implement a clinical pathway for interdisciplinary assessment of autism spectrum disorders or other developmental challenges.
  • Project and document the need for additional medical, psychological, social, speech, and applied behavioral services for children with autism.
  • Maintain clinical face-to-face hours with patients, meeting the accessibility standards set by the Autism Program Manager.
  • Act as a Liaison between area schools, school-based health clinics, integrated behavioral health, social health, and local pediatric providers, establishing regular connections with designated school staff; facilitate involvement on campus and improve outreach to local student populations.
  • Support program goals to reduce culture and socio-economic barriers between clients and institutions committed to working with marginalized and diverse community populations.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Able to actively listen, think critically, and be flexible.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Passionate about working with children and those who struggle with socio-economic barriers to care.
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention Comprehensive training class completed within 6 months of hire and recertify prior to the expiration date.


Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited Speech/Language Pathology Program -OR- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) from an accredited Speech/Language Pathology Program -OR- Equivalent education.
  • Unrestricted Oregon License and Board Certified to practice as it relates to Speech/Language Pathology, required.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from ASHA or working towards that as a CF.
  • One (1) or more years’ experience working in healthcare or similar setting as speech/language pathologist is preferred, however CF candidates will be considered.
  • Experience with providing diagnostic assessment and speech therapy services to full range of individuals with behavioral or developmental issues such as autism spectrum disorder.
  • We are willing to consider a clinical fellow (CF) candidate.
  • Clinical experience with Autism in a pediatric population is a plus.
  • Solid working knowledge of the principles and practices of speech/language pathology.
  • Previous work experience with non-profit organizations is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting and/or standing at a desk working at a computer.
  • Able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
  • Able to travel as needed.
